Boehringer Ingelheim
In 1885, Albert Boehringer founded a company in the German city of Ingelheim, which was later named Boehringer Ingelheim. The company is still owned by the same family, and is still based in Ingelheim. Today it employs more than 41,000 people in 47 countries. In 1974, Boehringer Ingelheim established an independent subsidiary in Denmark. Until then, Boehringer Ingelheim's products were sold in Denmark by various agencies.
In 1991, Boehringer Ingelheim bought Novo Nordisk Agrovet A/S. This company's history goes back to just after WWII, when Ferrosan started producing medicine for animals, such as iron and vitamin preparations.
In 1998, Boehringer Ingelheim A/S (human division) merged with Boehringer Ingelheim Agrovet A/S (veterinary division) under the name Boehringer Ingelheim Denmark A/S.
